Barrel Pumps: What are They?
Barrel pumps, also known as container pumps, are pumps that are used to empty or evacuate liquids/fluids from barrels and drums.
How Do They Work?
These pumps consist of three parts: a motor, an immersion tube, and a pump. The tube hangs out the bottom part of the pump’s motor and is what enters into the container or barrel with a fluid to be evacuated. Immersion tubes are typically about the same length as the barrel’s depth. The tube fits through – and is usually sealed to – a barrel’s opening. It’s worth noting that the material that’s used to make the tube can vary contingent on the properties of the fluid that’s being pumped.
