Houzz launches 2027 scholarship program

Houzz has opened applications for its 2027 scholarship program, offering financial support and industry resources to students pursuing careers in design and construction. The program will award five scholarships of $2,500 each across five categories: Women in Architecture, Residential Design, Sustainable Residential Design, Residential Construction Management, and Skilled Trades.

Liza Hausman, vice president of Industry Marketing at Houzz, stated that the future of construction and design relies on new professionals entering the field with the skills to lead. She added that as artificial intelligence changes how projects are developed and managed, students require opportunities to gain both hands-on experience and technical knowledge.

Who can apply

Students in fields like interior design, architecture, setting architecture, architectural engineering, construction management, and trades can apply. Applicants must submit a short essay about their influences in design and architecture, along with a professional student profile on Houzz. This profile lets them display their work and connect with more than 3 million professionals in the industry.

The application deadline is March 31, 2027. Details are available on the scholarship page.

Beyond the scholarship

Houzz also runs Houzz Pro for Students, a program that gives free access to its all-in-one AI software for builders, remodelers, and designers. The one-year subscription includes tools such as Takeoffs, Estimates, Proposals, 3D Floor Plans, and Mood Boards. These features help students develop skills they’ll need in their careers.

While scholarships offer immediate financial help, programs like this one show how companies are changing how they prepare students for an industry that depends more on digital tools. Experience with industry-standard software can help applicants stand out in a job market where knowledge of AI-driven platforms matters as much as traditional design abilities.

Last year’s winners included Gwen Fazio, an architecture and urban planning student at the University of Michigan, and Cameron Chadwick, a carpentry student at Pine Technical and Community College. Their selections show the program values both academic and trade-based paths in the field.

The focus on sustainable design matches growing demand for environmentally friendly building methods. Victoria Olaleye, last year’s winner in the Sustainable Residential Design category, studied at Louisiana State University, where sustainability is a key part of the curriculum. As climate concerns influence building codes and what customers want, training in these methods may soon become essential for new professionals.
