When it comes to choosing the right sized bed for your bedroom, you might be forgiven to think that there are only a few options: single, double, king… But actually, you have more options than you think. So, before you struggle to fit that double into a space it’s not suited for, take a look at our guide on choosing the right bed for your room.
Let’s start with choosing your single bed. That’s right, there is more than one option. For a smaller room where storage is key and you need a bed that doesn’t take up all of the space, you have a couple of options. A sofa-bed might be useful if the room is only used for occasional guests. This is a great space-saver and doubles-up the room as a guestroom/all-purpose room. But if the room is a child’s bedroom, it’s best to go for a full bed. The smallest full bed, which is ideal for youngsters who hare transitioning from a cot bed, is known as a compact or small single. However, if you have a little extra space, you might want to go for a standard single bed. A standard for a child’s bedroom will mean that the child can make use of the bed for a longer time as they grow. The standard single is adult-sized too, so can offer that extra space in a spare room, if needed. You can find guides that will offer the exact sizes for single beds, which will help you decide on which choice is best.
Next, the double or the king-size?
Not sure which of the two is best for your room? Well, actually, we’re talking best of four, technically.
You can still choose a double when your room is on the small size. And, of course, when you’re considering your budget. But there is the option for a ‘small double’ which is smaller than the standard double and will fit into double rooms that are on the smaller size when it comes to space. It could be that the standard double is just the right size too, but ask around about the differences in price, as this could be a contributing factor. Finally, the kings. There’s the standard king-size bed, which measures at 6.6ft by 5ft and there’s the Super-King, which measures at 6.6ft by 6ft, offering an even wider bed than the standard king. On a budget, these beds may not be your first choice, but they are perfect for those who are taller and those who also may need a little more room to get a good night’s sleep. But you will need the space to incorporate them too. It may be that the king will fit, but does it really offer the space around it to make the best use of your bedroom and the storage you need too?
The factors to consider when choosing a bed are: the size of the room; who the bed is for and how often it will be used; longevity; budget; style and finally, décor. The best place to start is by finding the right bed store where you can get expert advice, quotes and guidance on choosing your next bed.
