In my senior year of college, I decided to live off campus. I found a cheap apartment, and once I moved in, I realized how much the dorms made everything easy for us students. We had our own beds, rooms, furniture, and even a cafeteria. Now I have to provide most of that stuff. I needed a cheap bed that I could use for the year, so I went to Sleep Matters to see which ones were good for a poor student like myself who was on a tight budget. I found a pretty good memory foam mattress that could be shipped to my apartment in just a few days.
I had to go to a store that sells cheap furniture to buy a desk and a night stand for my room. While the furniture is cheap, anyone who buys it has to assemble it themselves, which isn’t always easy. Sometimes the instructions for the furniture are written in weird ways, and sometimes the instructions don’t have any words at all. I don’t think having just images is a good way to tell someone how to put a desk together. After spending some time with the parts, I was able to figure out how to put together the furniture.
The apartment came with its own stove, so I was able to cook food, but I did miss being in walking distance of the school cafeteria. I used to have the meal plan that would let me eat anything I wanted at any time, and I loved it during my freshman year. It was like being at an all you can eat buffet, and I gained some weight that year. Of course, now I have the luxury of being able to eat in bed if i want to, because the apartment and bed are all mine.
